Licensed Asbestos Removal
HSE-notified removal of all asbestos-containing materials by licensed contractors across England and Wales. Negative pressure enclosure, licensed waste disposal, and independent clearance certificate on completion.
Most asbestos removal work in England and Wales is classified as licensable work under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and must be carried out by a contractor holding a current HSE Asbestos Removal Licence. All contractors in the AsbestosCertified network hold valid, unrestricted HSE licences and carry out removal in full compliance with CAR 2012 and associated HSE guidance documents including HSG247 and L143.
Licensable work includes removal of asbestos insulation board (AIB), sprayed asbestos coatings, lagging on pipework and boilers, and other high-risk asbestos-containing materials. The work must be notified to the HSE at least 14 days before commencement.
HSE Notification Required: Licensed asbestos removal work must be formally notified to the HSE a minimum of 14 days before work begins. Our contractors manage this notification process as part of the project.
Residential asbestos removal is frequently required before loft conversions, extensions, kitchen and bathroom refurbishments, and full property renovations. Common materials in residential properties include Artex ceilings, asbestos cement garage roof sheets, asbestos insulation board in airing cupboards and boiler rooms, and floor tiles beneath vinyl or carpet. All residential removal is carried out to the same HSE standards as commercial projects.
Following completion of removal works, a four-stage clearance procedure is carried out by an independent UKAS-accredited analyst. This includes a visual inspection of the enclosure, air sampling, and laboratory analysis. A clearance certificate (also called an air clearance certificate) is issued on successful completion. This document is required by lenders, insurers, and local authorities before an area can be reoccupied.
